The plug-and-play authentication SoC allows users to distinguish genuine products from counterfeits or clones without requiring security expertise. The STSAFE-L010 SoC is mounted directly onto consumables, peripherals, and accessories, including ink cartridges, batteries for industrial equipment, and e-bike motors.
The STSAFE-L010 authentication SoC, now available at Mouser, is a secure element that enables the host system to verify and differentiate between authorized and unauthorized peripherals and consumables. A simple I²C or ST1Wire interface connects the tip to the host device’s microcontroller unit (MCU). The STSAFE-L010 authenticates the consumable or peripheral by generating a digital signature in response to a challenge sent by the host. The signature is created using a unique Ed25519 private key, and the challenge can include traceability or zone-specific data for enhanced security. The SoC also supports usage monitoring with secure counters and storage.
The STSAFE-L010’s best-in-class hardware includes 32KB of secure nonvolatile memory that can be divided into zones with configurable access. The hardware also offers Flash memory, ten years of data retention at 25ºC, and 100,000 erase/program-cycle endurance at +25°C. The STSAFE-L010 Authentication SoC is available in three package options: the ECOPACK-compliant UFDFPN 8-lead ultra-thin profile fine pitch dual flat package, X2F-PSON6 package, and XDFN3 package for direct contact.
