Mouser Electronics, Inc., the authorized global distributor with the newest electronic components and industrial automation products, is now shipping the new xG22-EK8200A Energy Harvesting Explorer Kit from Silicon Labs. The xG22-EK8200A Kit is an excellent starting point for exploring and evaluating various energy harvesting solutions using Silicon Labs’ multiprotocol wireless system-on-chips (SoCs) for industrial automation, smart home and building, sensors, condition monitoring applications, and more.
The Silicon Labs xG22-EK8200A Explorer Kit, available from Mouser, enables the evaluation of the functionality and performance of energy-harvesting-powered devices with Bluetooth LE and Zigbee Green Power. Energy harvesting is the process of capturing, transforming, and storing energy from various ambient sources, such as solar power, RF waves, and physical vibrations. This technology plays a crucial role in the foundation of ambient IoT, a new generation of ultra-low-power, connected devices that operate by drawing energy from their environment instead of relying on traditional batteries.
The xG22-EK8200A Kit includes the EFR32xG22E Explorer board and multiple energy harvesting shield boards. The Dual Harvester shield is based on the e-peas AEM13920 PMIC and can simultaneously harvest energy from one or two sources. Typical use case scenarios involve complementary photovoltaic cells, one photovoltaic cell, and one piezoelectric source, which takes energy from vibrations. The Kinetic Button shield is based on the e-peas AEM00300 PMIC and demonstrates a specific application with a kinetic switch that temporarily powers the wireless SoC and transmits a sequence of packets. The Battery shield is provided for debugging stand-alone operation scenarios or evaluating battery lifetime, plus also supports both pulsed and continuous power supply applications, accommodating single or dual energy sources.
