Nuvoton M485 NuMicro Crypto Series Microcontrollers Now Available at Mouser

Provide Fast and Easy Encryption, Decryption, and Authentication

Nuvoton M485 Microcontrollers:

Mouser Electronics, Inc., the industry’s leading New Product Introduction (NPI) distributor with the widest selection of semiconductors and electronic components, is now stocking the M485 NuMicro Crypto series microcontrollers from Nuvoton.

The M485 NuMicro Crypto microcontrollers (MCUs) are powered by the Arm Cortex-M4F core with DSP extension. These MCUs are capable of running at up to 192MHz with a dynamic low power consumption of 175 μA/MHz. The M485 MCUs are embedded with a hardware cryptography engine and dual USB HS/FS OTG. These MCUs feature 512KB zero-wait state Flash memory and 160KB RAM, including 32KB external SPI Flash cache. The M485 MCUs include 80 bytes of battery-powered backup registers and a 16-channel peripheral DMA controller. These MCUs are available in LQFP-48, LQFP-64, and LQFP-128 packages.

The comprehensive hardware cryptography engines in the M485 series support ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptography), AES-256, DES, Triple DES, SHA-512, and HMAC. In comparison to software solutions, a hardware cryptography engine can drastically reduce the orders of magnitude in calculation time. For added security, the embedded random number generator can generate a random key for data encryption and decryption verification. The hardware CRC unit can ensure the correctness of data transfer. The One-Time Programmable ROM can protect an encryption key from being altered. The M485 series offers up to six tamper detection pins for monitoring system status, ensuring the security of confidential data. To protect the user’s intellectual property, the M485 series also features Flash lock, a 4 KB SPROM (Secure Protection ROM), a 96-bit UID (Unique Identification), a 128-bit UCID (Unique Customer Identification), and a secure boot function for content verification during system boot.

The dual-bank Flash memory architecture in the M480 series supports OTA (Over-The-Air) firmware upgrades in runtime. In addition to internal Flash memory, an external SPI Flash cache is also provided to speed up Execute-In-Place, allowing for more flexibility in development and design.

The M485 MCUs enable security for fingerprint modules, smart payment devices, IoT devices, industrial automation, sensor networks, consumer electronics, and more.
