DENSO CORPORATION announces that its Carbon Footprint (CFP) calculation application has received the “Application Certification” under the certification program operated by the Automotive and Battery Traceability Center Association, Inc. (hereinafter “ABtC”).
In recent years, against the backdrop of the depletion of natural resources and the environmental impact caused by waste, there has been a growing demand for a transition to a circular economy in which products are used for as long as possible and resources are circulated within the economic system. Along with this trend, the importance of CFP calculation—visualizing and sharing environmental impacts across the entire product lifecycle by converting them into CO₂ emissions—as well as data exchange to support such calculations, has been increasing worldwide.
To respond to these needs, DENSO has newly developed a CFP calculation application. Through data exchange with business partners, this application enables systematic calculation, management, and verification of CO₂ emissions across the entire product manufacturing process.
ABtC, which operates the certification program, is a public digital platform operator certified by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Under the Ouranos Ecosystem initiative, ABtC operates a data sharing platform that complies with the guidelines of the Information-technology Promotion Agency, Japan (IPA).
By obtaining ABtC certification, DENSO’s CFP calculation application has been recognized as being able to securely connect to ABtC’s data sharing platform and has become an application compatible with use cases under the Ouranos Ecosystem initiative. This enables companies and organizations to securely share and collaborate on CFP data via ABtC’s data sharing platform while maintaining mutual trust.
In addition, DENSO obtained EcoPass certification from Catena‑X in February 2025, collaborative and open data ecosystem for the automotive industry, connecting all players along the value chain.
As a result, DENSO has become the first company in the world to obtain certifications enabling a single application to securely connect to both the Catena‑X and the Ouranos Ecosystem.
Going forward, DENSO will proceed with the implementation of its CFP calculation application to enable seamless inter-company sharing of CO₂ emissions data. Furthermore, DENSO will promote the implementation of data linkage functions for its battery passport service scheduled for release this summer, as well as for the digital product passport planned for future expansion, thereby developing an environment that can be utilized for data exchange across supply chains in Japan and Europe.
