The RPR-0730 is an analog optical sensor capable of high-precision detection of fast-moving objects in consumer and industrial equipment applications.

Available from Mouser, the RPR-0730 is an ultra-compact optical proximity sensor that integrates a proprietary 940 nm infrared IrVCSEL as the light source and ROHM’s high-speed phototransistor as the light-receiving element. This configuration offers superior directionality and lower power consumption than conventional LED-based solutions.

The result is faster, more precise detection, making it ideal for demanding applications such as print detection in multifunction and label printers, as well as rotation sensing in motors and gears – areas where conventional digital output types often fall short—utilizing a phototransistor with analog output as the receiver achieves a response time of 10 μs, enabling high-speed, accurate identification of fine lines as narrow as 0.1 mm, surpassing the performance of conventional LED light sources.

The RPR-0730 features an ultra-compact (2.0 × 1.0 × 0.55 mm3) package and employs a visible-light-filtering resin that minimizes interference from ambient light or sunlight. This ensures stable detection even in environments with varying lighting conditions, such as factory floors and outdoor settings. The small size allows easy integration into equipment with limited installation space, including conveyors and precision instruments, thereby expanding suitability for a wider range of applications.
