New industry summits highlight China’s emerging forces in power electronics
A notable focus this year was on key growth drivers within China’s power electronics sector, highlighted by two new industry summits designed to showcase the strength of the domestic semiconductor field and support the international growth of new enterprises. The Semiconductor Rising Stars Summit, led and chaired by Professor Zhang Bo of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, focused on IGBT and silicon carbide (SiC), bringing together innovators from across the domestic power semiconductor value chain to present their latest advancements. The Emerging Applications Summit centred on cutting-edge topics such as power sources for low-altitude aircraft and next-generation high-frequency, high-reliability topologies.
Conference connects academia and industry on key topics
Once again convening top experts and researchers from industry and academia, the 2025 PCIM Asia Shanghai Conference addressed cutting-edge topics and advanced technologies, serving as a key platform for knowledge sharing between specialists from China and abroad. The 95-session programme included presentations on silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductor devices, packaging and reliability, and data centre power architectures. The agenda featured three keynote speeches, nine oral presentations, seven poster sessions, and one invited speech.
Feedback from participants highlighted the comprehensive coverage of products and technologies, the high quality of the presentations, and the valuable industry insights shared. In total, the conference attracted 1,244 visits.
Exhibitor feedback:
“Power Integrations provides power conversion devices for everything from phone adapters to renewable energy. Here at PCIM Asia Shanghai, we’re showcasing our SCALE-iDriver for railway applications and our automotive solutions. This year has been very productive, with many successful sales meetings and customer visits. The PCIM series is probably the best for our company when it comes to meeting with actual customers and getting business done. “ – Ms Linda Williams, Director of Marketing Communications, Power Integrations
“As a major event for the power electronics industry, this platform brings together leading companies to present the latest in cutting-edge technology and innovation. For us, our focus this year is on achieving three key objectives: staying updated on industry trends, meeting face-to-face with our customers to find new market opportunities, and showcasing our own products and technology to build our brand’s influence.” – Mr Hua Wang, Deputy Head, Power Semiconductor Device Group, Minebea Trading (Shanghai) Ltd
“Hisense Home Appliances is expanding into the upstream industry with our own power semiconductor division. After three years of development, our components are now in mass production in our own appliances, and we chose the renowned PCIM Asia Shanghai to officially introduce these components to the wider market. The results have been very positive; in just the first day and a half, we’ve held productive technical discussions, gathered new customer contacts and introduced our brand to the media.” – Ms Jenny Wu, Director of Sales Department, Power Semiconductor Development Division, Hisense Power Semiconductor
Conference participant feedback:
“I was very pleased with the engagement after my keynote. We had significant figures and industrial leaders asking deep technical questions on topics ranging from AI power trends to our research into liquid metal. For a speaker, that direct, high-level interaction with an audience filled with industrial attendees is what makes this event so effective for bridging research and application.” – Prof Teng Long, Professor of Power Electronics, University of Cambridge
“The PCIM Asia Shanghai Conference plays a positive role in fostering exchange between academia and industry, serving as an international platform that brings together experts from China and abroad for high-level dialogue. The audience response was excellent; there was an enthusiastic atmosphere and a great deal of interaction during the opening ceremony and keynotes. I was especially pleased to see that the industrial application forum drew a larger crowd than expected.” – Prof Yongdong Li, Vice Dean, New Energy Vehicle Research Institute, Tsinghua University
“As a semiconductor engineer focused on silicon carbide, I’ve found the techniques shared here quite insightful. For example, one talk on a new method to monitor chip temperature, a key challenge in our field, presented a very promising new approach. That’s the real value; the point of these conventions isn’t just to have results presented to you that you can copy and take home; it’s about taking inspiration, and I’m all for that.” – Mr Peter Pang, Semiconductor Device Engineer, Alpha Power Solutions Limited
Summit audience feedback:
“We attended the Power Semiconductor Rising Stars Summit to understand the latest advancements in chip design, energy efficiency and advanced packaging. The speakers offered practical insights into common technical challenges and their solutions, which is highly valuable for our technology roadmap and supply chain strategy. The summit was professionally organised, and it was an excellent opportunity to connect with emerging companies and witness the technological progress made by many local firms.” – Mr Weijian Pan, Huawei Technologies Co Ltd
“I was very impressed with the Emerging Applications Summit. The agenda was highly focused, concentrating on the forward-looking field of low-altitude aircraft power technology, which is directly relevant to our work.
