SPECTRAN solutions: From December 9 to 11, experts from the fields of electronic warfare, electromagnetic spectrum operations, cyber-electromagnetic activities, and information operations gathered in National Harbor, Maryland. More than 2,000 experts and specialists from over 40 countries were impressed by the performance of Aaronia systems, among other things.
The global market leader in drone detection from Germany presented and impressed with its latest solutions and developments for real-time signal classification and geolocation, situational awareness, EW, drone detection, and critical infrastructure protection.
Visitors were impressed by the performance of the solutions based on the scalable USB real-time spectrum analyzers of the SPECTRAN series. “Time and again, experts are surprised at how fast our systems work and, above all, how precisely the recorded signals can be evaluated,” explains Peter May, Technical Director at Aaronia AG. In the field of critical communications in particular, the analysis of communication radio channels across the entire frequency range from 27 MHz to 7.125 GHz is becoming increasingly important. The analyzers of the SPECTRAN V6 PLUS series with an RTBW (real-time bandwidth) of 245 MHz enable seamless streaming of IQ data, which is unique in this bandwidth.
In addition, the SPECTRAN V6 MOBILE caused a sensation as the world’s first portable real-time spectrum analyzer with an RTBW of 490 MHz. “The ability to achieve such enormous bandwidths with small solutions such as the V6 Mobile met with great interest among the expert audience. No wonder, because such options are usually only available, if at all, in extremely expensive devices,” May continued.
SPECTRAN V6 Command Center
Specialists in electronic warfare, electromagnetic spectrum operations, cyber-electromagnetic activities, and information operations were equally impressed by the SPECTRAN V6 Command Center. The world’s fastest real-time spectrum analysis solution impressed with its extremely fast broadband frequency monitoring. The same applies to the demodulation and decoding as well as subsequent classification of many signal types in real time. “The SPECTRAN V6 Command Center is the ultimate solution for precise measurements, signal analysis, and signal location in outdoor use,” said Thorsten Chmielus, CEO and founder of Aaronia AG. “Visitors were particularly impressed by the first-class display of signals on the two 24″ 4K monitors. And the combined resolution of 3840 x 4320 pixels, combined with a high-resolution display of the entire frequency range or simultaneous monitoring of multiple frequency bands in real time, never failed to amaze.” Peter May adds: “Equally surprising for the experts was the possibility of scaling almost any functionality as desired in addition to the bandwidth through hardware and software cascading, thus creating multifunctional solutions for customer-specific requirements.”
It is therefore not surprising that these devices form the basis for a wide range of integrated solutions from the AARTOS range, including the world’s leading drone detection system, AARTOS X9.
New world record
Aaronia already set a new world speed record at EMV 2023 with a sweep speed of 3 THz/s, and this year the 40 GSPS SPARK signal generator is breaking all records at AoC in Maryland. With 2 x 20 GHz bandwidth, the generator achieves a chirp speed of 750 ps (picoseconds). “This allows the 40 GSPS SPARK to change the frequency of a chirp signal with a temporal resolution of 750 picoseconds, resulting in very fine and smooth chirps even at extremely fast sweeps,” says Peter May. In addition, the jitter, i.e., the temporal uncertainty of a signal, is only 50 fs (femtoseconds). This makes the device ideal for use in ultra-wideband or mmWave radar, for example. “Considering that high-quality RF generators typically achieve values of <100 fs, the 50 fs of the 40GSPS SPARK Signal Generator sets a new benchmark,” concludes May..
