California’s horrorshow traffic can be the reason for Elon Musk to think about the idea of the fifth transportation system( Cars, Trains, Flights, boats and now Hyperloop) but being stuck in Indian metropolitan cities traffic might have given him another reason. India with massive population and mass transit to commute through landscape needs the speed to connect. India has already shown its acceptance towards the Hyperloop transportation system by signing MOU’s on Hyperloop by three states of Indian government: Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra (till the date of publishing this analysis).
Indian Government has already signed MOU’s for making Hyperloop reality for India.
- On 6th September 2017 : To connect the Amaravati ( the new capital of Andhra Pradesh) and Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (AP-EDB) took a revolutionary step by signing MOU with Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT). The project will be accomplished in two phases: The phase one will consider the feasibility study for optimizing routes between the cities. The second phase will construct the path for its implementation.
- On 16th November 2017, Virgin Hyperloop One signed a Memorandum Of Understanding with Karnataka Government Urban Development Department (KUDD). Virgin Hyperloop One will conduct a preliminary study in order to identify the potential routes in Karnataka, to enhance the connection between fast-growing industrial hubs.
Another MOU was signed between Maharashtra Government and Virgin Hyperloop for exploring the connectivity between Mumbai and Pune with hyperloop transportation system.
At Present travel time (By Road) | With Hyperloop travel Time |
Pune and Mumbai: 2 to 3 hours | 14 minutes |
Amravati to Vijayawada: 90 minutes to 2 hours | 5 minutes |
Two Indian teams have been selected for Hyperloop One’s global challenge, AECOM India Pvt. Ltd and Hyperloop India as a winner on September 14, 2017. Hyperloop One will work closely with these two teams to determine commercial viability.
Hyperloop system will not only bring revolution to landscape transportation but also employment to Indian citizens in form of creating local jobs in manufacturing, construction, research and development.
