CUI Devices’ Motion Group announced the introduction of a new model to its AMT commutation encoder family that supports larger motor shaft sizes from 9 mm to 15.875 mm (5/8 inch).
The AMT33 series generates standard U/V/W communication signals for commutating brushless dc motors in industrial, automation, robotics, and renewable energy applications. Based on CUI Devices’ proprietary capacitive sensing technology, the series combines high durability and accuracy with added resilience to dirt, dust, and oil that can plague other encoder technologies in industrial environments.
The AMT33 commutation encoder features 22 programmable resolutions from 48 to 4096 PPR, low current consumption of 16 mA at 5 V, and accommodates brushless dc motors with 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, or 20 pole pairs.
Housed in a compact 42.3 x 42.3 x 13.5 mm package, the series offers CMOS voltage or differential line driver outputs, radial or axial orientations, and a wide -40 to +125°C operating temperature range. When paired with CUI Devices’ AMT Viewpoint™ software, users can easily configure the encoder’s resolution, pole count, zero position, and direction of rotation.
This saves valuable time during development and assembly compared to optical encoders where the optical disk must be precisely rotated and checked via back EMF to ensure proper alignment. The digital nature of the AMT33 series reduces this time-consuming process to seconds with its One Touch Zero™ feature.
Additional flexibility comes in the form of the AMT33-V kit, which includes 9 sleeve bore options from 9 mm to 5/8 in and simple mounting tools that further simplify the mounting process to a wide range of motors.
