STMicroelectronics launched an evaluation kit for advanced automotive gateway and domain controller applications. Electronics Media had an exclusive Q&A with Luca Rodeschini, Automotive and Discrete Group Strategy Office & Automotive Processors Division General Manager, STMicroelectronics to understand (Smart Gateway Platform) evaluation kit and ST’s in-vehicle technologies across the entire automotive portfolio.
Kindly brief about ST’s Smart Gateway Platform key components?
Luca Rodeschini: The SGP-TC-EVK (Smart Gateway Platform) evaluation kit is an easy-to-use development and prototyping platform for advanced automotive gateway and domain controller applications that is built around ST’s secure automotive system on chips, a SPC58NHx microcontroller and a STA1385 microprocessor. It assures high levels of processing and security capabilities, as well as real-time network performances required for use cases such as OTA management, Ethernet packet inspection, fast wake-up response, secure data routing CAN-to-CAN and CAN-to-Ethernet, low-power Body Control Management, intrusion detection and predictive maintenance.
Who is the Target audience for this solution?
Luca Rodeschini: The SGP-TC-EVK (Smart Gateway Platform) evaluation kit is targeted to engineers developing advanced automotive gateway and domain controller applications leveraging the new automotive control architectures that consolidate multiple Electronics Control Units (ECUs) into a gateway/domain controller for greater security and reliability.
Please share pricing options for this evaluation kit?
Luca Rodeschini: For now, pricing options and sample requests are being handled by direct contact with ST Sales.
What are ST’s latest In-Vehicle offerings?
Luca Rodeschini: Leveraging its 30+ years in automotive electronics, ST is a solid, innovative, and reliable partner with whom to build the future of transportation. ST’s Smart Driving products and automotive solutions are making driving safer, greener and more connected through the combination of several of our technologies. We support a wide range of automotive applications, from Powertrain for ICE, Chassis and Safety, Body and Convenience to Telematics & Infotainment, paving the way to the new era of car electrification, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), car connectivity and security
What is ST view on growth of In-Vehicle network interfaces?
Luca Rodeschini: Connectivity and telematics have revolutionizing the cars and vehicles on our roads. While connectivity to the cloud and cloud-based services benefit occupants, they have also aided manufacturers by enabling over-the-air software upgrades and predictive maintenance. Now, with numerous electronic control units (ECUs) assuring safety, engine management, motor control, infotainment, and other functions, gateway controllers are playing a fundamental role by acting as a communication bridge and providing physical isolation and protocol translation to route signals between the multiple functional domains (powertrain, chassis and safety, body control, infotainment, telematics, ADAS) that share data.
Can you share the key customers who are currently using ST‘s In-Vehicle solutions?
Luca Rodeschini: We cannot disclose customers or the activities we’re working with them on.
