At electronica 2024, we will be showcasing our latest board-to-board and high-reliability interconnect technologies for demanding applications, alongside advanced board-level shielding and accessories that simplify assembly and manufacturing.
This year’s event in Munich will also give many visitors the first opportunity to see our growing family of advanced design, configuration and selection tools. These are aimed at streamlining design and prototyping, simplifying selection and purchasing, thus reducing time to market.
Harwin Connectors
Whether the target application is submarines or satellites, industrial automation or uncrewed vehicles, medical equipment or electric vehicles – we’ve build a reputation for providing reliable, high-performance connections that engineers depend on.
On display will be a number of products from our HRi and BBi range which have been launched in recent months.
Optimized for mission-critical applications where high performance and dependability are absolutely vital, our portfolio includes the compact and lightweight Gecko (1.25mm pitch), high-density Datamate (2.00mm pitch), compact power M300 (10A), and the high-power (60A) Kona series.
The BBi range features highly durable board-to-board connectors supporting data rates up to 24Gbps and is ideally suited to industrial and embedded applications. Offering ease of integration and addressing acute space constraints, these high-density products cover pitches from 0.5mm to 2.54mm.
Interconnect technologies at Electronica 2024
The latest HRi technologies on show at electronica will include a crimped version of the popular Kona female contact that provides stronger, more reliable connections and minimizes the risk of errors during soldering. In addition there will be seven new Datamate M80 Mix-Tek high-reliability miniature connectors that offer assemblies with or without contacts.
Latest high-reliability connector technologies
Visitors will also see a version of the M80 that uses Kapton tape to reduce connector footprint in pick-and-place scenarios and an extended selection of lightweight yet robust plastic hoods for the Datamate range that now feature hex screws.
Launched earlier this year and making its debut at electronica will be Flecto, the latest addition to the BBi portfolio. Comprising 66 individual products, these floating, board-to-board connectors address the data and power transfer demands of high-performance applications while providing the positional tolerance needed to support high-speed automated assembly of PCBs with multiple connector pairs.
Offering up to 160 contacts in a symmetrical double row layout, the Flecto floating connector family is available with three choices of miniature pitches: 0.5mm (.0197”), 0.635mm (.025”) and 0.8mm (0.0315”).
By accommodating movement of up to ±0.5 mm in both the X and Y axes, Flecto allows for accurate placement of multiple connectors between the same two PCBs where the sum of misalignments might, otherwise, present challenges for high-speed, high-precision mating.
The positional tolerance flexibility of Flecto connectors also eases any stresses from misaligned connections, helping maintain contact force over time and enhancing system reliability by protecting connection integrity from shock and vibration events.
Board-Level Shielding and Accessories
EZi board-level shielding and accessories on show at electronica 2024 include EMI/RFI shielding cans, simple-to-adapt shielding kits, contacts, sockets, cable clips and jumper links.
New shields, pogo pins and clips
Among the latest additions to the family are an extended choice of spring-loaded pogo pins for enhanced resistance to shock and vibration and a new PCB spring contact that is optimized for reliable, high-speed assembly. A new shield can technology that eliminates the need for additional soldering by supporting rapid hand-assembly will also be on show.
Advanced Support Tools
In recognition that a growing number of engineers look to manufacturers for additional help during design and development, this year Harwin further expanded its support capabilities with a variety of design tools and online connector CAD models.
These include powerful tools from TraceParts and TrustedParts, a cable configurator tool from Cadenas, a leading software developer in the areas of strategic parts management and parts reduction, and the SnapMagic (formerly SnapEDA) search engine solution.
During electronica 2024 we will be demonstrating how these tools help engineers to simplify search, gain rapid access to 3D models of Harwin’s products and speed part selection, design and purchase.
