Coolant formulated for aerospace sector

Trim MicroSol 590XT from Needham Market-based Master Chemical Europe Ltd (www.masterchemical.com) is a semi-synthetic micro-emulsion coolant that has been developed specifically to meet the needs of machining applications in the aerospace sector.

The fluid, which has approvals from both Boeing and Airbus, is said to provide long life and protection for sensitive alloys. Moreover, Trim MicroSol 590XT improves on the performance of previous-generation coolants in terms of both lubricity and sump life; no tank-side biocides or fungicides are required.

According to Master Chemical, this is a highly stable, translucent micro-emulsion made from environmentally safe ingredients. As well as being free from secondary amines, it contains no chlorinated or sulphurised extreme-pressure additives, formaldehyde releasers, phenols or boron.

Moreover, the company says that to ensure Trim MicroSol 590XT meets the demands of high-pressure high-volume applications, the fluid has been formulated to offer good foam control and low carry-off, as well as sufficient cooling and lubricity for machining titanium, 6000- and 7000-series aluminiums, and typical aero-engine materials such as stainless steel and Inconel.

Providing a good alternative to ‘milky’ soluble oils on high-silica aluminium, the coolant also provides corrosion inhibition on all ferrous and non-ferrous metals — and it keep parts and machines clean.
