Ericsson, ITB collaborate for Internet of Things research

Swedish telecommunications equipment company Ericsson and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for Internet of Things (IoT) research on Wednesday.

The MoU was signed by Thomas Jul, president director of Ericsson Indonesia & Timor Leste, and ITB rector Prof. Dr. Ir Kadarsah Suryadi, DEA.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden.

Through this partnership, ITB researchers and students will have direct access to IoT industry platform, allowing them to see the real examples of IoT technological usage and references owned by Ericsson. Meanwhile, the company has the opportunity to turn the ideas into real products.

The IoT areas that will be explored during the partnership are smart home, smart building management, smart lighting, smart waste management, safety and security, smart parking, smart car and smart farming agriculture.

“Ericsson has a great interest in partnering with industry and educational institutions to answer the challenges and opportunities in Information and Communication Technology area,” said Jul in a press release, adding that the purpose of this partnership was to boost the creation of IoT apps and to meet the expectations of Indonesians in digital industry.
