Tamil Nadu is the second state to hold largest number of smart cities nominated in the list of smart cities in India. Chennai and Coimbatore secured its place in the first list while Vellore, Madurai, Salem and Thanjavur were selected in the second list in 2016 – 2017. There are total 12 cities in the list to be developed under the guideline of smart cities mission. Six cities have been declared and six more are awaited for the next round in 2017 -2018.
