Healthcare IT / Digital Health Companies Raise $5.5 Billion in VC Funding in First Nine Months of 2017, More than All of 2016

October 23, 2017 – Mercom Capital Group, llc, a global communications and research firm, released its report on funding and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity for the Healthcare Information Technology (IT) / Digital Health sector for the third quarter and first nine months (9M) of 2017. Mercom’s comprehensive report covers deals of all sizes from across the globe.

Global VC funding in 9M 2017 was 31 percent higher than the same period in 2016 with $5.5 billion raised in 586 deals compared to the $4.2 billion raised in 463 deals in 9M 2016. Q3 2017 VC funding came to $1.5 billion in 227 deals, a 38 percent decrease compared to the record $2.4 billion raised in 194 deals in Q2 2017. The 227 deals in Q3 2017 were the most recorded in a single quarter since 2010.

The Digital Health sector has now received $24 billion in 3,258 VC funding deals since Mercom began tracking in 2010.

Total corporate funding in Health IT companies – including VC, debt, and public market financing – came to $1.7 billion in Q3 2017 compared to $2.4 billion in Q2 2017.
