RI 266 Tunable notch filter meeting new RF test & measurement requirements for wireless devices

  • Targets formal conformance testing by accredited test houses and internal verification processes executed by mobile device vendors
  • Critical tool for adaptation to stringent new ETSI/3GPP conformance test specifications for mobile device radio properties covers all sub-6 mobile bands and channel bandwidths

Ranatec has added a new, state-of-the-art notch filter for RF test and measurement to its product portfolio. With a continued focus on design and manufacturing of test and measurement equipment for the most demanding niche RF and microwave applications, the Ranatec RI 266 tunable notch filter covers all sub-6 mobile bands and channel bandwidths – first of its kind on the market. RI 266 provides comprehensive coverage of all sub-6 channel plans for design verification, product certification and product testing.

Ranatec’s newest instrument is designed to aid test houses and mobile device vendors in meeting the extensive set of ETSI/3GPP conformance test specifications (TS 136 521-1 for LTE and TS 138 521-1 for 5G NR) stipulating levels of radio properties to be verified for enabling high quality wireless access of mobile devices. Two key objectives for the conformance test specification are to detail requirements applicable for any mobile device with respect to transmitter output spurious emissions and receiver blocking characteristics

Key details of the Ranatec RI 266

According to Ranatec, obtaining a dynamic range in testing of RF devices, products and systems is a common measurement challenge. The traditional approach is employing extensive filter-banks of increasing complexity to selectively suppress parts of the spectrum while detecting weak signals in the un-suppressed part. For each new generation of mobile devices and complexity introduced with an ever-increasing coverage in terms of frequency bands and channel bandwidths, measuring spurious emissions in all relevant operational modes becomes a significant challenge as the complexity of conventional filter banks becomes unmanageable.

-“To address this challenge, Ranatec has developed the Ranatec RI 266 – a digitally tunable notch filter covering all sub-5 mobile bands and channel bandwidth in one box –, says Magnus Kilian, CEO, Ranatec. “To our knowledge this product is a market first – specifically relevant with iminent 5G roll out and product homologation being a critical milestone for devices as well as system vendors.”

Connected devices and mobile applications require wireless networks access that are resilient, secure and able to protect individuals’ privacy, Thus, a massive number of harmonized standards and specifications have been developed by the wireless industry.

Experts at Ranatec are working closely with leading global wireless device vendors and accredited test houses to develop benchmark tools that help our customers meet the evolving demands of testing environments and deliver benchmark services and products.
