Industry recognizes the kit’s innovation in accelerating the development of more efficient motor control solutions
onsemi Motor Development Kit (MDK) has won a 2021 Top 10 Power Product Award organized by 21ic.com. This annual award program is recognized as an industry benchmark in identifying the 10 most innovative power products with technological advancement in China.
Motors are ubiquitous in modern life, from climate control, appliances, to automobiles, factories, and basic infrastructure. Electric motors account for 45% of total global electric power consumption according to the International Energy Agency, and therefore the reliability and efficiency of motor drive electronics have an impact on the environment in the world and a variety of applications. The power product award-winning MDK from onsemi addresses the urgent need for improved energy usage.
The MDK comprises an expanding variety of power boards to create quick-start platforms to run motors, which are connected to a Universal Controller Board (UCB).
The power boards feature the company’s leading 1 kW and 4 kW Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs) for three-phase motor drives together with all other necessary components and devices from its broad portfolio to help engineers quickly develop solutions that deliver greater energy efficiency, in any application that uses electric motors.
The UCB is a common control platform that interfaces with any power board to enable engineers to evaluate alternative motor control techniques for various types of motors and at a wide variety of power levels.
Intelligent motor control requires a flexible and programmable approach. The UCB is based on the Zynq-7000 SoC family from Xilinx. This powerful device integrates two ARM Cortex-A9 processor cores alongside an FPGA fabric, providing the optimum combination of software and hardware configuration. The board also features a 10-channel differential ADC, 12 PWM channels and several configurable digital peripherals. Communication ports include USB, JTAG and UART, as well as a Gigabit Ethernet PHY.
onsemi plans to introduce MV MOSFET 3-Phase brushless DC motor driver boards with four different voltage/power ranges in the fourth quarter of 2021.
