  • Component temperature and humidity sensors
  • Applications for the RTY series of angular position sensors
  • Characteristics of the Honeywell limit switches

MIP pressure transducers

MIPAG1XX001BAAAX
1/4 inch pressure connector made of steel resistant to chemicals.

The MIP series of sensors comprises industrial components with reinforced bodies (IP67-rated), where a sensor is separated from the medium measured. They can handle water (including potable water) as well as corrosive substances with the temperature ranging from -40°C to 125°C. They are connected to systems via 1/4 inch threads. Depending on the model, these sensors measure absolute pressure (in relation to vacuum) or relative pressure ranging from 0–1 bar to 0–50 bar. They come with temperature compensation circuits to ensure the measurement accuracy of ±0.15%. The analogue (voltage) output adopts a value that is proportional to the pressure measured, i.e. this range extends from 10% to 90% of the supply voltage (typically: 5 V DC). The sensor specification facilitates their application in hydraulic and water supply systems, food processing industry and HVAC systems (to handle coolants such as butane, propane, ammonia and CO~2). Furthermore, they can be used with fuels (petrol, diesel), and even in medical systems (to measure the pressure of gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and air).

Humidity sensors

HIH-4000-002
HIH-4000 humidity sensor with a voltage output.

Honeywell also provides component sensors, i.e. sensors mounted on PCBs being components of some larger equipment. These include the HIH-4xxx (HumidIcon) humidity sensors housed in SIP3 packages and equipped with voltage outputs. Their very low power consumption facilitating their application in mobile devices (e.g. remote environmental condition monitors) is their overriding feature. They can be supplied with voltages from 4 V to 5.8 V DC. Other related Honeywell sensors that are available in our product catalogue include the HIH-6000, HIH-7000 and HIH-8000 series of components. They are similar solutions designed to measure humidity and temperature simultaneously. The differences between these product series consist mainly in their tolerance ratings, i.e. the higher the series, the lower the error tolerance range (even ±0.5°C for temperature and ±2% for humidity). They come with digital outputs and communicate via I2C or SPI protocols supported by most microcontrollers. Such components are used in creating industrial and consumer circuits (e.g. for IoT). They operate with voltages ranging from 2.3 V DC to 5.5 V DC (depending on the model). Honeywell supplies both through-hole assembly (THT) and surface-mounted (SMD) sensors.

Angular position sensors

RTY360LVEAX
RTY series sensors are used both in the automotive and industrial sector.

The RTY series includes fully insulated, durable angular position sensors operating within the 50° do 360° angle range, with the tolerance rating reaching even 180°. They are intended for industrial applications (controlling valves, throttles and nozzle swing) and automotive applications, i.e. detecting the position of pedals, linkages, control and suspension system components. Such features as their mechanical resistance and the IP67 degree of ingress protection makes them suitable for installation on boats and in heavy machinery (e.g. cranes). Their service life is estimated at ca. 15 million cycles. The RTY sensors are connected via standard 3-pin automotive connectors (e.g. AMP-0-0282087-1) in the EU or American version (applicable regions are specified in product parameter sheets). Two of these pins include DC power supply inputs (4.5–5.5 V or 10–35 V), and the third one constitutes a voltage output. The mechanical assembly is possible thanks to the 6 mm diameter truncated axis. The components are protected against both electromagnetic interference and incorrect connection.

NGC limit switches

NGCPB10AX01A1A
Limit switch equipped with a roller lever.

Limit switches are not only used for machinery control (e.g. CNC machine tools) or position detection of cranes and heads, as they are also commonly applied in production and warehouse management automation systems to count items on conveyor belts, position workpieces properly, etc. Note also that they are used as safety elements in public utility systems (e.g. lifts, escalators, automatic doors). Due to the significance of their role, it is always advisable to select limit switches of tried-and-tested quality, offered by trusted manufacturers. All the NGC solutions from Honeywell will surely meet all such stringent requirements or even exceed them.

The NGC limit switches come with silver- and gold-plated contacts (two or four pairs) withstanding 5 A or 10 A currents. Consequently, they can be used to directly interrupt power circuits (up to 240 V AC, 250 V DC, depending on the model), but they will also work well as signalling components. Connections are made using pre-installed 1 m or 5 m cables. Their design is based on the MICRO SWITCHES with the NC + NO configurations (a state change is followed by the opening of one contact pair and closing of the other contact pair) or 2xNC + 2xNO configurations. The TME product catalogue includes NGC components with diverse mechanical designs, i.e. with a pin, a pin with a steel roller (located transversely or longitudinally in relation to the body), as well as elements fitted with a lever and terminated with a plastic roller.
