China-based Truly Opto-Electronics is expected to ship 10 million fingerprint sensor modules in the third quarter of 2016 and ramp up shipments to 45 million units for all of the year, according to industry sources.
Truly Opto-Electronics is currently the major supplier of fingerprint sensor modules for a number of China-based smartphone vendors, including LeEco, Vivo, Meizu and Gionee, indicated the sources.
Together with other vendors including Oppo, Huawei, Lenovo, Xiaomi Technology, ZTE and TCL, China-based smartphone vendors may need up to 400 million fingerprint sensor modules in 2016, estimated the sources. Shipments of fingerprint sensor modules reached slightly over 100 million units in the first half of 2016.
Truly Opto-Electronics has been developing fingerprint sensor modules in cooperation with Synaptics, Elan Microelectronics, FocalTech Systems and Goodix.
