Silicon Labs’ Low-Power BGM113 Blue Gecko Module, Now at Mouser, Provides Short-Range Bluetooth Capabilities

Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now offering the Blue Gecko BGM113 Bluetooth Smart Module from Silicon Labs. This ultra-low-power, Bluetooth 4.1 (Bluetooth Smart) module gives developers an optimal combination of small footprint, ease of use, and low-energy technology for short-range wireless applications. With TX power up to 3 dBm, RX sensitivity down to -94dBm, and up to 50 meters range, the BGM113 module is an ideal choice for space- and energy-sensitive radio frequency (RF) applications such as smartphone accessories, wearable sports andfitness products, wireless locks, and point-of-sale devices.

The Silicon Labs Blue Gecko BGM113 module, available from Mouser Electronics, integrates a 2.4 GHz Blue Gecko wireless system-on-chip (SoC) — which combines a 2.4 GHz transceiver with a 40 MHz ARM Cortex-M4 core and 256 kBytes of flash and 32 kBytes of RAM — and a high-efficiency chip antenna into a complete, ready-to-use system. The BGM113 module is pre-loaded with Silicon Labs’ Bluetooth 4.1-compliant software stack and is field-upgradable using device firmware upgrades to Bluetooth 4.2 and beyond. The module is footprint-compatible with the Silicon Labs BLE113 module, providing developers an upgrade path and support for Bluetooth 4.2.

Mouser Electronics is also now shipping the Silicon Labs SLWSTK6101B Blue Gecko Wireless Starter Kit. This starter kit features an on-board J-Link debugger, a virtual COM port interface, an LCD display, a humidity/temperature sensor and test points to access all the pins of the Blue Gecko modules. The Wireless Starter Kit includes both BGM113 (short range) and BGM111 (long range) radio boards (also available as standalone boards) that can be connected to the starter kit’s mainboard expansion header. The expansion board contains additional peripherals such as an accelerometer, buttons, LEDs, joystick, and an I2C expansion slot.
