India and Spain have signed seven agreements. The key areas in which the pacts were inked are cyber security, renewable energy, technical cooperation in civil aviation, visa waiver for diplomatic passport holders. The other MoUs are between Foreign Service Institute and Diplomatic Academy of Spain and others for transfer of sentenced persons and cooperation in organ transplantation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described terrorism as a challenge to the humanity and stressed that India and Spain should work together to deal with this emerging global challenge. He said, both the countries have witnessed the menace of terrorism.
Addressing the media jointly with the President of Government of Spain Mariano Rajoy in Madrid, he said, the two countries can cooperate in several areas including infrastructure. The Prime Minister said, New Delhi and Madrid must have closer economic ties. Mr.Modi said, India is in favour of making ties with Spain even more productive in the coming years. He invited Spain to invest in India in sectors like Smart City, railways among others. Mr Modi and Mr. Rajoy hoped that this visit will boost the bilateral relation between the two countries. Later the Prime Minister met Chief Executive Officers of the Spanish industry.
Earlier, Mr Modi also called on King of Spain Felipe VI at Palacio de la Zarzuela. Mr Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Spain since 1988. Spain is India’s seventh largest trading partner in the European Union. Two- way trade totalled 5.27 billion dollarsin 2016. Later the Prime Minister left for Russia after successful visit to Spain. He will reach St. Petersburg tonight on a two day visit for the 18th India-Russia Annual Summit.
