RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the global distributor for engineers, has signed a franchise agreement with Abracon, LLC, a leading global manufacturer of frequency control, timing, synchronisation, RF, connectivity and power components destined for deployment in markets such as industrial, communications and automotive, as well as the emerging generation of IoT applications.
The distribution deal covers the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions and provides RS customers with fast and easy access to Abracon’s diverse portfolio of products, which includes quartz timing crystals and MEMS oscillators, real-time clocks (RTCs), RJ45 jacks with magnetics, power and RF inductors, wireless charging coils, antennas and other RF devices. The agreement also represents an important extension of the existing relationship in the US between Abracon and Allied Electronics & Automation, the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc in the Americas.
Key advanced technologies for Abracon include advanced design, simulation and testing of Pierce oscillators and RF antenna systems. Able to diagnose in-circuit performance of crystals in low power IoT devices, the Pierce oscillator system (PAS) test service exposes design flaws before they impact the application’s reliability. Antenna tuning services complement Abracon’s advanced electromagnetic simulation and design capabilities to provide customers with a fast track to market in complex RF and wireless designs.
“RS is aligned with our values of customer service and innovation,” said Mike Calabria, CEO of Abracon. “Our existing partnership with Allied now includes RS and greatly enhances Abracon’s reach into their extensive engineering community in the European territories. RS’ significant digital business and its range of value-added services, including tools and resources for engineers through its DesignSpark community, will provide maximum support to our customers.”
“Building upon the existing relationship with Allied, this agreement provides an important enhancement to our portfolio,” said Andy Keenan, Vice President Category Management for Semiconductors and Passives at RS. “Abracon is delivering quartz crystal technologies to help engineers meet the low power, high performance requirements of next-generation battery-powered devices in emerging IoT applications and more.”
