European Space Agency (ESA) Space Passive Component Days (SPCD) International Symposium, is pleased to announce that the call for papers for the third edition of the International Symposium SPCD is now open. The aim of the symposium is to promote the discussion of recent developments and trends and to encourage the exchange of technical expertise and information covering a broad range of passive components for space applications. It takes place between 9-12 October 2018, ESA\ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands.
The SPCD international Symposium is the premier technical conference dedicated to passive components: capacitors, circulators, cables assemblies, harness, connectors, crystals, magnetics, relays, resistors, thermal elements, RF passives and many others for space applications.
“Passive components represent more than 80% of the EEE parts used in spacecraft”, said Denis Lacombe, member of the ESA SPCD organising committee. “Therefore, they present a major concern for space applications. In recent years, the development of passive components has been driven by reliability, performances, new functionalities, mass and volume saving and cost reduction.”
Those interested in presenting a paper are invited to submit an abstract before the end of March 2018. Each submitted paper will be peer-reviewed by the Technical Program Committee members who are experts in their fields and come from different space agencies (CNES, DLR, ESA, JAXA and NASA), large system integrators (Airbus, OHB, RUAG, TAS and TESAT) and space passive components manufacturers. Acceptance of full papers will be based on appropriateness of the topic, quality, novelty, and clarity of exposition. In addition to the technical papers, manufacturers have the opportunity to present their products through a Technical Introduction of Components (TIC). TICs are short commercial presentations of 5 minutes to advertise a product family that is under-development or recently qualified or has been introduced to market.
“Of course, the main theme of the symposium is space, but ESA also invites contributions from other hi-rel industries, especially industrial and automotive. This is a truly international event with participants from all over Europe, the USA (NASA), Japan and India. Attendees from academia are also welcome,“ added Léo Farhat also member of the ESA SPCD organising committee.
