Rohde & Schwarz and MediaTek validate 5G New Radio capabilities of Helio M70 modem

Rohde & Schwarz and MediaTek have successfully conducted 5G signaling tests using a device equipped with MediaTek’s new Helio M70 5G modem, ensuring the modem is compatible and ready for 5G NR deployment. The tests were carried out using an R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester and the new R&S CMX500 5G NR signaling tester that was recently unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona.

Rohde & Schwarz and MediaTek have successfully carried out 5G NR signaling tests using a test setup with the R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester and R&S CMX500 5G NR signaling tester from Rohde & Schwarz and the MediaTek Helio M70 5G modem for the sub 6 GHz band. The test setup provided a 5G network simulation with a signaling connection compliant with 3GPP Release 15. 5G NR will initially operate in non-standalone (NSA) mode, largely relying on existing 4G LTE infrastructure, and then migrate to standalone (SA) mode using 5G NR network infrastructure.

Anton Messmer, Vice President Mobile Radio Testers at Rohde & Schwarz, says: “Taking into consideration the longstanding cooperation between Rohde & Schwarz and MediaTek, this collaboration once again proves the dedication of both companies to bringing 5G technology to users around the world in the earliest possible time.”

JS Pan, General Manager of Wireless System Design and Partnership at MediaTek, says: “MediaTek’s Helio M70 is the industry’s fastest sub 6 GHz modem and is expected to appear in next generation 5G devices by 2020. Helio M70 is the only 5G chipset with dual LTE and 5G connectivity and multimode capability that supports all current cellular generations from 2G to 5G. It presents an ideal solution to deliver a 5G experience with ultra-fast connectivity and intelligent power saving.”

The R&S CMX500 5G NR signaling tester can be easily integrated into the existing Rohde & Schwarz LTE test setup. Together with the R&S CMW500 wideband communication tester, it provides a versatile test solution during R&D. The R&S CMX500 supports both SA and NSA mode. Using this future-proof setup, developers of 5G user equipment and infrastructure can quickly and reliably demonstrate and assure 5G NR compliance of their devices.

With its comprehensive portfolio, Rohde & Schwarz provides reliable T&M solutions for the mobile and wireless industries and is committed to creating dedicated test equipment to meet the challenges of 5G. To learn more about the R&S CMX500 radio communication tester and related solutions, visit: www.rohde-schwarz.com/ad/press/cmx500
