Who is Sana AI Anchor Robot?

Sana is India’s first-ever Artificial Intelligence news anchor making her first debut on Aaj Tak news channel, Black&White programme with journalist Sudhir Chaudhary. She has a human-like appearance, bright and gorgeous female with a command of her speech with confidence. The AI female anchor will not age and would provide daily news updates in multiple languages to the viewers several times a day.

Vice Chairperson of India Today Group’s Kalli Purie, launched Sana AI Anchor Robot during India Today Coclave 2023. Describing her, Kalli Purie said, “She is bright, gorgeous, ageless, tireless, speaks in multiple languages and totally under my control.” The multilingual AI anchor will not fumble and can answer all the questions without any delay. Sudhir Chaudhary, also presented his views about Sana by posting, “Welcome to the future of news broadcasting!” on twitter. He said this launch a revolutionary step towards the future of Artificial Intelligence technology in India, changing the game of journalism and media broadcasting.

Can Sana operate on her own/ How does Sana work?

The AI robot cannot operate fully on its own as it is provided with the information and data according to which she has to respond automatically. She will appear on Aaj Tak news channel screens from this week onwards to present the news updates with different languages’ accents using the text-to-speech technology. To enhance the interaction, she will do a question and answer session with the audience.

The technology is changing so fast and yes the robotics and humanoid AI’s are also keeping up their pace with machine learning technology. Though Sana cannot operate fully, she is in the process of acquiring human behaviour at a fast speed. Sana AI Anchor Robot uses machine learning technology to learn, understand, adapt and capture the human’s characteristics and behavioural patterns.

Will AI Robots take over Journalism jobs?

The introduction of AI-powered news anchor in the field of journalism is definitely a game changer. It is too early to say about how deep their impact would be on the media professional’s jobs in the near future, but yes it is a growing concern that what difference they would make and to which extent, as the technology is really moving so fast.

The AI robots can do news bulletins, but cannot conduct realistic debates, the way individual anchors do today, as they may not be able to replicate human experience and observation. But considering all these factors, being ready to adapt and face the challenges that these AI’s will bring cannot be ignored.
