Anritsu Interviews Prof. Wei Fan on 6G Research Trends

Anritsu Corporation interviewed Professor Wei Fan (currently Professor at Southeast University in China), head of the “Radio Channel and OTA Testing” research group at Aalborg University in Denmark. The discussion highlighted groundbreaking 6G technology in wireless communication, cutting-edge measurement technology, and the significant achievements of Prof. Wei Fan’s joint research with Anritsu.

With the approach of the 6G era, achieving faster and more reliable communication systems while creating innovative applications for wireless technologies has been essential. Against this backdrop, Prof. Wei Fan’s group at Aalborg University focuses on three groundbreaking areas: channel sounding, to evaluate radio propagation characteristics and model them effectively, developing new OTA test solutions for Massive MIMO to accelerate communications with multiple antennas, and advancing measurement methods for antennas and radio frequency technologies.

The interview covers fascinating research projects, including the development of 6G channel sounders, wireless testing for massive MIMO base stations, and the development of a wireless cable approach. These initiatives play a vital role in advancing discussions on the allocation of new frequency bands to support 6G use cases. Among these, the development of the 6G channel sounder emerged from the joint research with Anritsu, leveraging their bi-static 2-port VNA ME7868A. The propagation characteristics data with channel sounder has attracted significant interest across the telecommunications industry and beyond.

Prof. Fan emphasizes the important role of collaboration between researchers and industry in advancing technology. He expresses his commitment to maintaining the strong partnership with Anritsu to jointly address a wide range of challenges as we move towards the 6G era. Through these 6G research programs, Anritsu actively supports the development of future wireless communications technologies.
