Modular Test Solution for Automotive Cameras andDisplays Based on ASA-Motion Link

ASA-ML Video Test System – High-resolution cameras and displays in vehicles require fast and secure communication with the electronic control units (ECUs) and all other components. This is not only the foundation for modern technologies such as autonomous driving (ADAS), but also the basis for future-proof mobility development. With ASA-ML, a new, vendor-neutral standard is establishing itself worldwide, enabling fast asymmetric data transmission via coax or STP. GÖPEL electronic is now launching a high-performance video test solution that not only combines a frame grabber and frame generator in a single system but is also fully prepared for the new ASA-ML standard.

The new model of the Video Dragon test set enables the verification of high-resolution industrial cameras, display systems, and imaging units. To this end, the system combines a frame grabber and a frame generator in a single device to record, visualize, and analyze video streams from high-resolution cameras. Video Dragon can be adapted to the ASA-ML standard using a plug-in module. This ensures that increasing resolutions, frame rates, and heterogeneous interfaces are considered right from the development stage.

Video Dragon stands out thanks to its modular hardware design, flexible sideband communication, and intuitive application software. To offer customers the highest possible flexibility, the system also supports video transmission standards such as GMSL, GVIF, FPD-Link, APIX, and MIPI A-PHY®. Project-specific contact units, such as pin adapters, enable customized and precise connections for the respective applications. This provides developers, test engineers, and manufacturing managers with a powerful solution for reliably verifying stability during continuous operation, interface compatibility, and timing.

As a member of the Automotive SerDes Alliance, GÖPEL electronic is also making a significant contribution to the further development and establishment of the ASA-ML standard in the automotive industry with this new test set. This high-performance solution is already suitable for all camera and display applications that demand the highest standards of image quality, reliability, and reproducibility. Video Dragon thus enables the capture, analysis, and output of video data in a seamless workflow—from development through validation to production. The new video test system is available both as a stand-alone device for laboratory use and as a PCI Express card or PXI Express module for test PCs or production lines.
