Altmetric Attention Score – Altmetric now tracks mentions of published scholarly outputs made in Cassyni research talks. Journals, societies and university departments increasingly record and publish the talks that accompany new papers. Cassyni publishes those talks as structured research outputs, each with a Crossref DOI and a transcript. Altmetric matches those references to the papers they point to.
Now, a paper referenced in a Cassyni talk will show a seminar mention on its Altmetric badge, in red. Altmetric weighs a seminar mention the same as a policy document or a clinical guidelines.
The recordings themselves become measurable at the same time. Every Cassyni talk carries its own DOI and now accrues an Altmetric Attention Score of its own, with an Altmetric badge on the talk page showing who is discussing the talk and where.
Organizations subscribing to the Altmetric Explorer will see seminar activity in the Reports and Details Page Timelines as an additional source in the same dataset. Mentions in talks are signals of expert attention. They travel faster than citations, and capture connections between papers that other sources miss.
Altmetric is the second Digital Science product to index Cassyni data. Cassyni seminars are already discoverable in Digital Science’s Dimensions, with their own publication type filter, full metadata records and the recording playable on the page.
Ben Kaube, Co-founder, Cassyni, said: “A talk is a research output, and it should be measurable the way an article is. That is why talks carry DOIs, are indexed in Dimensions, and are now measured by Altmetric.”
Miguel Garcia, VP of Product, Digital Science, said: “A complete view of research influence means tracking the conversations that shape how research is understood. Seminars are where researchers present their new work to peers and get challenged on it, and adding that crucial discussion provides a much more complete perspective of the attention data.”
