The lights have been provided using the Road Safety Fund granted by the State government.
Police and patrol vehicles operating within the city limits have been fitted with flickering LED lights as part of an effort to improve visible policing.
The LED lights have been fitted in four-wheelers used by Inspectors of Police of Law and Order and Crime wings, Traffic Police Inspectors besides Highway Patrol vehicles and two-wheelers used by constables for beat patrolling within the city.
The installation of LED lights with blue and red colours is to enable the public easily identify police vehicles – four-wheelers as well as two-wheelers – even during night hours. The lights have been provided using the Road Safety Fund granted by the State government.
Flagging of the LED lights fitted vehicles at the City Police Armed Reserve ground on Thursday, Commissioner of Police A. Arun told reporters that steps would be taken soon to install such lights at the eight check posts and 51 police beat boxes put up at different places within the city.
The lights would flicker even if the vehicle was idle. This would help the public seek the assistance of the police personnel manning them in case of any emergency, he said.
The lights have been fitted in 36 four-wheelers and 34 two-wheelers. Importance has been given to visible policing in an effort to prevent crimes and maintain law and order, the Commissioner said.
Registration of cases relating to theft of two-wheelers was also being done as and when such cases were being reported, he added.
