Calian announces a new era of affordable Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) design, with the VCS6000XF Full-Band Smart Choke Antenna

Calian GNSS (Formerly Tallysman® Wireless Inc.) is excited to announce a new era of affordable Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) design, with the VCS6000XF Full Band Smart Choke Antenna.

The VCS6000XF, developed by Calian GNSS, combines an industry-leading precision Tallysman Verachoke antenna element with Septentrio’s powerful Mosaic X5 full-band receiver to embody “precision multiplied” in an “out of the box” building block for OEM CORS solutions.

The VCS6000XF provides excellent reception of the full range of GNSS signals: GPS/QZSS L1/L2/L5, GLONASS G1/G2/G3, Galileo E1/E5a/E5b/E6/E5 AltBoc, BeiDou B1/B2/B2a/B3, NavIC L5, SBAS (WAAS/EGNOS/GAGAN/MSAS/SDCM), and L-Band correction services.

It offers the advantages of the VC6050 Verachoke: low axial ratio from zenith to horizon, all azimuths, all GNSS bands; consistent performance across all frequencies; excellent multi-path rejection including ground reflection at low elevation via its 3D choke ring; extreme precision with 0.5mm phase centre variation; near-band signal interference via Calian’s eXtended Filtering; and GEO++ calibration.

The VCS6000XF SmartChoke ring antenna integrates the Septentrio Mosaic X5 receiver to deliver powerful capabilities essential for CORS base stations: AIM+ anti-jamming and anti-spoofing mitigation and monitoring; IONO+ scintillation mitigation; APME+ posteriori multipath mitigation; LOCK+ tracking robustness against vibration or heavy mechanical shock; and RAIM+ receiver integrity tracking. It utilizes Septentrio’s RxTools Software suite for monitoring and controlling the SmartChoke.

The VCS6000XF solves the problem of Radio Frequency (RF) signal degradation/attenuation caused by long antenna cable runs between the antenna and receiver by combining the antenna and the receiver in the choke ring antenna. This eliminates the need for expensive low-loss RF cables and provides the GNSS receiver with the cleanest and purest RF signal. The connection from the smart antenna to the PoE switch is via a provided marine-grade ethernet cable (CAT5e).

The VCS6000XF uses PoE to connect to a local ethernet switch and a USB interface to configure the Smart GNSS Antenna. The SmartChoke provides 32GB storage onboard, and an integrated NTRIP “Caster” makes it suitable for both independent data collection and networked RTK or small-footprint, streamlined ready-to-deploy reference station applications.

Calian Smart Antennas can be customized and offer a flexible framework, tailored to meet individual customer and project demands, offering seamless compatibility between multiple industry leading GNSS receivers and correction services available in the market, adding the advanced Calian antenna elements for maximum versatility. Integrations achieved include receivers offered by ST, u-blox and Septentrio with GNSS corrections supported by PointOne, Swift Navigation and PointPerfect.
