Honeywell Secures Contract to Automate EESL’s Lithium-Ion Gigafactory in Bengaluru

Honeywell has secured a contract to implement advanced building automation solutions for Exide Energy Solutions Limited (EESL), a subsidiary of Exide Industries Ltd., one of India’s leading battery manufacturers.

The contract includes equipping EESL’s 80-acre lithium-ion gigafactory campus in Bengaluru with digital solutions designed to enhance operational efficiency, improve energy savings, and boost security. Honeywell’s technology aims to enable faster incident response while streamlining operations.

The gigafactory, set to be Bengaluru’s first multi-gigawatt-hour lithium-ion cell production facility, is expected to be operational by 2025. It will manufacture lithium-ion batteries to cater to the rising global demand for electric vehicles (EVs).

“At Honeywell, we are committed to supporting the efficient production of batteries that power the future of electric vehicles,” said Atul Pai, Vice President and General Manager of Building Automation at Honeywell India. “Our integrated solutions will help make Exide Energy’s facility safer, more secure, and highly automated, while contributing to India’s self-reliance in electric mobility and sustainable energy solutions.”

Key to this project will be Honeywell’s Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) platform, which provides centralized monitoring and control for building management across the gigafactory campus.

Dr. Mandar Deo, CEO of Exide Energy Solutions, emphasized the partnership’s significance, stating, “Honeywell’s automation and safety solutions align perfectly with our vision to create a cutting-edge, sustainable Li-ion cell manufacturing unit. Their expertise ensures we meet our technological and operational goals.”
