Autonomous Trucking Technology – Rising costs, driver shortages, new regulatory requirements, and the adoption of alternative drive trains are placing the transportation sector under increasing pressure. At IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover from September 14 to 20, AUMOVIO will demonstrate how these challenges can be translated into commercially viable solutions for commercial vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators. “The commercial vehicle sector is at a turning point. Efficient, software-defined commercial vehicles, safe and autonomous driving, and electrification must all advance simultaneously – not as stand-alone technologies, but as integrated solutions that work in real-world operations,” says Ismail Dagli, member of the Executive Board and head of the Autonomous and Commercial Mobility business area at AUMOVIO. “The key is not only to develop innovation, but also to implement it in a way that is economically scalable. This is exactly where we are focusing our efforts.”
From products to solutions: four interconnected focus areas
Across four focus areas – efficiency, software-defined commercial vehicles, safe and autonomous driving, and electrification – AUMOVIO will demonstrate at booth D06 in hall 11 and at the outdoor exhibit area, booth R61, how technology can deliver measurable value for commercial vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators.
Efficiency: from tachograph to integrated ecosystem
AUMOVIO’s VDO Ecosystem demonstrates how regulatory compliance and operational efficiency can go hand in hand. At its core is the seamless integration of tachographs, fleet services, and tolling solutions through VDO Link. The VDO Ecosystem enables automated processing of driving data, reduces manual effort, and helps fleets transform regulatory compliance into productive business processes. As a result, compliance documentation becomes a tool for improving data quality, managing costs more effectively, and increasing the efficiency of fleet operations.
Software-defined commercial vehicles: end-to-end system expertise
The shift to software-defined vehicle architectures is fundamentally changing the development, integration, and operation of commercial vehicles. At IAA Transportation, AUMOVIO will demonstrate how hardware, software, architecture platforms, and services can be combined within a single integrated approach. For commercial vehicle manufacturers, the company serves as a system partner that provides key components from a single source – from high-performance computers to connectivity and over-the-air capabilities. This approach shortens development cycles, accelerates the deployment of new features, and helps manufacturers manage increasingly complex vehicle architectures more effectively.
Safe and autonomous driving: bringing autonomous technologies into production
When it comes to autonomous driving, AUMOVIO’s work is centered around its partnership with Aurora. Both companies are working together to develop an autonomous trucking system for commercial vehicles that is scalable and suitable for mass production, and their goal is to bring it onto American highways in 2027. The system will be available for carriers and commercial fleet operators across the USA and will form the basis for the economically scalable use of autonomous commercial vehicles in hub-to-hub traffic. The system is based on a modular hardware kit from AUMOVIO that is specially developed for the integration of Aurora Driver, a hardware and software system for autonomous driving including a fallback system. In doing so, AUMOVIO relies on its extensive product portfolio of sensors such as radars and cameras, high-performance computers, control units for assisted and automated driving, and telematics units, as well as a complete fallback system with redundant safety system. In addition, AUMOVIO is responsible for system integration, industrialization, and production at automotive level as well as comprehensive validation processes.
Electrification: a range of solutions from original equipment to fleet operations
At IAA Transportation, AUMOVIO will showcase a broad portfolio of electrification solutions for commercial vehicles, ranging from components for vehicle manufacturers to charging solutions for fleet operators. The focus includes critical EV components that help monitor and manage vehicle charging functions, such as battery management systems, cell contacting systems, and DC/DC converters. These offerings are complemented by software solutions and services covering system integration and industrialization. Under the VDO brand, AUMOVIO also offers charging solutions for fleet depots, as well as services and applications for battery charging monitoring through the VDO Fleet cloud platform. The aim is always to continuously improve the range, availability, and operating costs of electrical commercial vehicles and to support fleets in optimizing their energy infrastructure.
Turning complexity into progress: technologies as a connected system
Across all four focus areas, AUMOVIO is pursuing a clear objective: developing technologies not as isolated products, but as connected solutions spanning the entire vehicle life cycle – from OEM development to fleet operation. The company demonstrates how it translates the demands of an increasingly complex transportation market into economically viable solutions. “The biggest challenge today is no longer individual technologies, but their integration,” says Georg Fässler, head of the Commercial and Special Vehicles segment at AUMOVIO. “We combine sensors, software, architecture platforms, and services into end-to-end system solutions – from the vehicle itself to fleet operation.
