Articul8 launches Bivia to bring domain-specific decision intelligence to enterprise AI agents

Bivia AI Decision Model – Articul8 today introduced Bivia, a compact, multimodal decision model designed to help AI agents make the thousands of defined decisions involved in completing a task. Available through an API, Bivia enables developers to build AI agents that make calibrated, domain-specific decisions across text, images, documents and other supported modalities without relying on a generative model for every step. Bivia returns structured decisions without generating output tokens and can abstain when the available evidence is insufficient to support a reliable decision.

Today, AI applications often rely on large language models (LLMs) to make every decision, even when the answer is simply yes or no, a particular option, or a score. As AI agents take on more complex tasks, these repeated calls can add computation and cost. Bivia addresses this by giving AI systems a dedicated model for decision-making, rather than requiring a generative model at every step. For routine decisions, Bivia abstains rather than generating an answer when the available inputs are insufficient to support a reliable decision, producing zero output tokens and avoiding unsupported or fabricated responses.

The product rests on a simple architectural principle: use generation to create, use Bivia to decide. Generative models remain essential for tasks such as writing, explaining and planning. Bivia handles the defined decisions around those tasks, helping developers build AI agents that can evaluate information, choose actions and determine when to stop.

“Enterprise AI is moving beyond generating information to taking action, and that shift makes decision-making just as important as generation. AI agents need to make thousands of judgments in the course of a task, and those decisions must reflect the context, expertise and operating requirements of the business. Bivia gives developers a dedicated decision layer that can be specialised to their domain and work alongside generative models. The principle is simple: use generation to create, and Bivia to decide,” said Ananthanarayanan S, Managing Director, India at Articul8.

Three capabilities designed for enterprise AI

Bivia brings together three principal capabilities: domain-specific decision-making, multimodal intelligence and computational efficiency.

Decisions tailored to the business

Unlike generic models designed for broad applications, Bivia can be specialized and tuned to an organization’s data, industry knowledge, policies, standard operating procedures and historical decisions. This allows enterprises to build AI applications that reflect their specific requirements and operating context across domains such as energy, hardware design, aerospace and finance.

In Articul8’s internal evaluations, Bivia achieved near-perfect accuracy on selected energy and hardware design tasks following domain-specific training. These results demonstrate the benefits of tailoring the model to specific tasks and technical requirements, with performance measured within the domains on which it was trained.

Evidence-backed decisions across modalities

Built on a multimodal architecture, Bivia can evaluate text alongside images, documents, engineering drawings, tables, charts, audio and video. It can ground decisions in source evidence by identifying relevant image regions, text passages and video timestamps, while its Span capability helps locate supporting information. The model also supports multilingual applications, including Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil and Sanskrit.

Bivia can analyze lengthy content to create searchable indexes rather than relying on selected samples. In a live demonstration, it processed every frame of a 52-minute, 4K documentary filmed from the International Space Station in a single request, enabling users to locate specific events, including brief appearances of city lights and the aurora. It can also provide confidence scores and abstain when the available evidence is insufficient to support a reliable answer.

Efficient, calibrated decisions at scale

Bivia supports five decision primitives: Choice (which one?), Boolean (is this true?), Score (how much?), Set (which of these apply?) and Span (where is the evidence?). These can be combined to enable higher-order capabilities such as evidence sufficiency checks, tool routing, document processing, semantic chunking and task-completion checks—helping AI agents make structured decisions without generating output tokens for every judgment.

Bivia offers three operating modes: Fast for quick decisions, Fast+think for decisions requiring additional computation, and Deep for decisions requiring further verification. In Articul8’s internal workflow evaluation, Bivia completed approximately 70% of workflows, compared with approximately 30% for the alternative evaluated. By abstaining when confidence is low or evidence is insufficient, Bivia helps developers reduce reliance on generative models for routine tasks while enabling applications to seek additional information or escalate uncertain decisions.

Enabling developers to build decision-aware AI applications

Bivia provides a dedicated decision layer for AI-agent workflows, working alongside generative models to handle the repeated judgments required as a task progresses. Developers can use generative models where content creation, explanation or planning is required, while relying on Bivia for decisions such as selecting tools, verifying evidence, identifying inconsistencies and determining whether a task is complete.

Available through an API as a standalone offering or as part of Articul8’s broader enterprise AI platform, Bivia enables developers to incorporate domain-specific, evidence-backed decision-making into enterprise AI applications. By combining domain specialization, multimodal understanding, calibrated decisions and adaptive verification, Bivia helps enterprises build AI agents that can make decisions with greater precision and operate more efficiently at scale.
