element14 community launches its 2020 Halloween Project Competition

With COVID-19 still impacting the lives of millions across the globe, Halloween is expected to be very different this year.  The prospect of walking from door-to-door has become for many a daunting, if not, a dangerous affair.  To reflect the current situation, the element14 community’s annual Halloween project has taken a different twist.  Members are asked to build a socially distant and COVID-19 safe Halloween project and blog about it on the community before November 5 for the chance to win an iPad Pro 12.9″ (or local equivalent).

The element14 community has curated ideas from previous competitions, and the element14 presents team, to inspire and delight its members in the run up to Halloween 2020.  Projects include:

  • Twilight Zone Fortune telling machine – a classic prop from the old series with a modern twist!  The original Mystic Seer was a coin-operated fortune telling machine created for the 1960 episode “Nick of Time”. Will this new, electronic fortune teller actually predict the future?
  • For Doctor Who fans, the operational Halloween Pumpkin Dalek using NodeRed and a Raspberry Pi will be a must.  This spooky Darlek utilising items from around the home alongside a Raspberry Pi, LEDS and a pumpkin to recreate the Doctors deadliest enemy.
  • Simple yet effective, the Open Heart surgery project, shows how to maximise the scare of any Halloween project with an open beating heart.
